Eastside Projects voluntary work

May-June 2017: Voluntary work for Eastside Projects gallery in Digbeth, Birmingham

I am a volunteer for the Not For Profit gallery: Eastside Projects which is located in Birmingham. Volunteering for them entails undertaking many responsibilities to contribute to the running of the gallery as well as understanding how a gallery operates. These include: reading into the history of the gallery and their previous/upcoming installations and projects, learning how to run the bar/cafe, promoting the gallery and their events on social media.

Being a volunteer for this gallery also includes learning how to run the front desk; being able to welcome and inform customers appropriately. Additionally, it involves conducting research of current and upcoming projects/artists being exhibited in the gallery is a key aspect. An example of one I have done can be provided upon request.

I was asked by the gallery to photograph and edit their ‘Digbeth First Friday’ event back in June, it was for the late night opening of their latest exhibition ‘Production Show: Artists House’, showcasing artists such as Jasleen Kaur, Hardeep Pandhal, Laura Aldridge and Liam Gillick; as well as the other installation of ‘The Conditions We’ve Set Up For Ourselves’ by Alice Gale-Feeny. It was a privilege to be able to document this event taking place. For more information on Eastside Projects, check out their website at: https://eastsideprojects.org

Below are some examples of these I created:
