A Collaborative Fashion Project

(2019)

This work is a collaborative fashion project involving myself and three other photographers and one model chosen by us. Inspiration for the shoots came from the activity used by some YouTube vloggers and photographers including Jessica Kobeissi: ‘4 Photographers Shoot The Same Model’.

The methodology consists of each photographer planning their own shoot with the model, choosing their own: styling, outfit and location. These chosen features are not to be changed by any of the other photographers when shooting – only the way in which they choose to photograph it.

Each photographer has between 5-10 minutes to photograph each shoot in their own way; directing the model and capturing the shoot with their own photographic style and practice. Our group decided that 7 minutes was appropriate as there were only 4 photographers. The photographers who are not shooting at the time observe and learn how the one photographing works and handles the shoot. This results in each photographer completing four different shoots, including the one they organised.

This project was challenging to do; it puts to the test how creatively and quickly you can think on your feet for making successful fashion/portrait imagery which is helpful practice for the fast-paced industry. Additionally, it was also a test of how co-operatively and effectively you can work in a group, learn from one another and build a rapport with the model; especially with people you have only just met that day which is another feature of the relevant industry. Furthermore, of course, it also resulted in each photographer having shot four different styled shoots in four different locations in Madrid which was a great result.

Here are the Instagram accounts of the others involved in this project with me, please go and check out their work!
